Tribe Against Machine camp

Tribe Against Machine 2017 - Taiwan

Tribe Against Machine is the 1st édition of a 10 day exchange between Atayal tribe craftmen and artist and e-textile practitionners, researchers, programmers, musciens and artists to join in a dialog between technology and tradition. This took place in the Li Hang workshop in the mountains of Taiwan.

I joined the focus group Sensing Invisible in which we explored ways of sensing invisible forces inspired by the chamanic culture of the Atayal tribe.

This tribe punk bridal head piece is inspired by the Atayal spirituality. A combination of the traditional embroidery techniques and DIY electronics senses the invisible electromagnetic fields, triggering a circular movement creating an acoustic response. This welcomes the ancestral spirits to follow the bride in her new life.

Tools: conductive and non conductive yarn, lillypad, servo motors, beads, lipo battery
